Trumaine Johnson, CB Montana Scouting Report

Trumaine Johnson, CB Montana [HT- 6’2 WT- 205 4.50 projected 40]

Positives-  Trumaine posses a big, tall, athletic frame…He has quick feet with an above average ability to mirror the Receiver…He has shown an NFL level ability to shut down a side of the field on the FCS level…He’s shown quick instincts and an above average ability to attack the Receiver [and create drops] when in Zone Coverage…Trumaine has big/strong arms/hands and as a former Receiver, knows the routes and mindset…He is able to time and match the Receiver at the high-point of the pass…He does help and isn’t afraid of contact and will step up and take/make a hit in the run game.

Negatives-  Trumaine lacks Elite speed (will run in the 4.5 range) and struggles to recover in most instances, whether it is mistiming the break or poor balance/footwork…He also struggles to stay with fast Receivers…While he is strong enough to make tackles on bigger Receivers/Backs/Ends, he lacks consistency in his form and technique…He also struggles when he tries to jam bigger Receivers on the line and can be overmatched and ran past…Needs to show consistency in his taking of proper angles, in coverage, and field awareness.
