Shea McClellin, DE/OLB/DT Boise State Scouting Report

Shea McClellin, DE/OLB Boise State [HT- 6’5 WT-270 4.85 projected 40]

Positives- Shea is a high energy, high motor pass rusher…He possess a solidly built body, with room on his frame to get bigger/stronger…He can play three positions (DT, DE, OLB) all of which he has shown his ability to find the Quarterback…He has a strong core, but shows exceptional strength in his hands and arms…He can shed blocks easier against lower completion and possess a quick first step, being one of the first lineman off the ball…Shea’s pass rushing arsenal contains all of the required moves, and has shown good range and knows when to use each…He has good balance and solid hips…He isn’t afraid of the ball carrier and he will wait for him to get to him, rather than overpressure and be taken out of the play.

Negatives- Shea struggles at times with his want to get to the Quarterback, and will out run the play (on rushes as well) and be a non-factor…He needs to be more patient in both aspects and not jump or move before the initial cut…He will at times try to run around the Tackle to get better position, but this leads to being pushed out of the lane and out of the play…Listed as a positive, however having several different positions in College, he has no natural fit at the next level and will have to put in extra time to get the nuances down.
